INTRODUCTION

The Bharath Abhyudaya Seva Samithi (BASS) is a registered non-governmental organisation working for the development of poor and marginalised communities in rural and urban areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, India.

BASS was founded by Chuka Peter Paul an eminent professional social scientist in 1978 after the havoc cyclone hit to serve the vulnerable families in Guntur district. Mr Peter Paul has been continuously heading the BASS as founder president and guiding light for all the Executive body staff and volunteers of the BASS to execute development projects. Under his able leadership BASS has successfully completed and continued several social, educational, health care and emergency relief activities.

Chukka Peter Paul ( 83 Years) , the founder of BASS, passed away on 6th January 2023. This is big sad news for the BASS family.

Mr Joseph A Arogyanadh


is the Chief Executive Officer of the BASS with a designation of Chief coordinator. He is a professional social worker who started his career as village Animator and continuously doing so by learning and being promoted as Chief Coordinator and directly working with all the stakeholders of the BASS include beneficiaries, community, colleague staff, volunteers, community, government departments and national and international collaborating partners. Mr Joseph has a diploma in Community Based Development with child development from Coady International Institute, St Francis Xavier University, Canada and also attended various workshops and trainings in India and also in Germany. He is successfully and effectively coordinating and implementing all our activities with the support of the team.

Mrs Garnepudi Prasanthi-


is the chief functionary and president of the BASS; she is professional Dietician with post-graduation in Home science. She is an expert in child education and community development programs.

Who Are We

The Bharath Abhyudaya Seva Samithi (BASS), is an Indian Progressive Service Society, located in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh is a registered non-governmental voluntary organization established in 1978.

BASS seeks to improve the livelihoods of children, youth, women and vulnerable people—those who are at the highest risk due to challenging social -economic conditions. BASS works to bring relief and opportunity to rural and urban communities negatively impacted by poverty and specially to improve the quality of life of children to become good human beings by having access to the right kind of education.

The vision of the BASS’ is to improve the quality of life of children, women elderly and the families who live in slums and villages of India. We wish them to be good human beings by having access to the right kind of education opportunities

To fulfill our vision, BASS wishes to initiate, operate and continue our best model projects in community development including social, educational, health care, emergency relief and rehabilitation activities for slums and rural areas in India by 2030. BASS wishes to educate and empower around 3000 children and 20000 families including women and elderly living in slums and villages who do not have access to education and other opportunities due to financial constraints.

BASS is working for the social, educational, health care, economic development and emergency relief and rehabilitation of the poor especially for the Scheduled caste (SC), the Scheduled Tribe (ST) and other economically backward communities, irrespective of their caste, creed and religion. BASS is committed to people's participatory development processes. People concerned and affected are involved in the entire process of project identification, development, execution, monitoring and evaluation. Projects adopt a bottom up approach and are evolved at the community level.

BASS received best appreciation service award from Collector, Guntur for Covid 19 Relief activities done during 2020 and 2021 on the occasion of 75th Indian Independence Day celebrations 15th August 2021.

  • Develop a Global Partnership for Development by 2030 in the target areas in India BASS has 7 Government Board Members, 5 Advisory members, 28 best staff members and 20 volunteers implementing all the programs of BASS.

    BASS is always in front by serving the poor to give them life. BASS uses main strategies in community development are education; capacity buildings and training include group’s buildings, unity and collectivism.

BASS Registrations

BASS is legally entitled to receive charitable donations as a registered organization under the Societies Registration Act 1860 with registered No.162 of 1978 dated 16-12-1978. BASS also registered with the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs under the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act, 1976 with registered number 010190145 dated 14-8-1992 and also granted FCRA renewal certificate on 30th September 2022. BASS also registered and granted valid 12 A and 80G Income Tax Exemption certificates. BASS annually submits financial and income tax documentation to the Government of India’s Ministry of Home Affairs. The organization’s Executive Body is regularly renewed, as per our organizational bylaws.

For the past four decades, BASS helps the most underprivileged members of society, but it does so with a difference. The organisation’s proven and sustainable approach focuses on the comprehensive development of its target communities.

A unique feature of this approach is the development of innovative and adaptable strategies based on continuous communication at the community level.

BASS facilitates communities to find solutions for themselves by giving all its members an active and participative role in returning people in order to achieve the overall objective: making a community a viable unit for its own development.
